Anambra Airport to Begin Night Operations as Government Approves Key Projects

The Anambra State government has announced that Chinua Achebe International Airport will soon be equipped to handle night landings, following the approval to install new landing facilities.

The State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, disclosed this after the 34th Executive Council meeting, confirming that the project has been awarded to Mercy Aviation Communication Electronics and Industries Nig Ltd.

The contract, valued at ₦489.7 million, includes the installation of airfield lighting systems and is expected to be completed within two weeks.

“This upgrade will enable aircraft to land at night, enhancing the airport’s capacity and operations,” Mefor said.

Other projects approved at the meeting include a ₦125.8 million contract for Red Clay Consulting to develop a responsive master plan for Anambra’s heritage sites and tourist attractions.

The council also awarded a ₦112.7 million contract to Triseconds Resources Ltd. for the reconstruction of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital gate, set to be completed in two months.

In addition, the Executive Council adopted new security measures, both kinetic and non-kinetic, aimed at addressing insecurity and ensuring a safer environment for all residents of the state.
