  • The minister asked Nigerians not to judge Tinubu, adding that the president is aware of the security challenges.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, has asserted that the federal government is escalating efforts to tackle Nigeria’s pressing security concerns.

Speaking on “Politics Today,” a Channels Television program, Tunji-Ojo revealed that National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu is deeply troubled by Nigeria’s security issues.

This statement follows the emergence of Lakurawa, a new terrorist group, responsible for killing 15 people in Mera village, Augie LGA, Kebbi state.

The Defence Headquarters declared nine suspected group members wanted, with Director of Defence Media Operations Edward Buba stating they infiltrated northern Sokoto and Kebbi from Niger Republic and Mali.

Tunji-Ojo emphasized that comprehensive solutions require time, citing the current administration’s progress in securing lives and properties.

“Nobody is resting. Not the NSA, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, not the Minister of Defence, not the Chief of Defence Staff, not the DSS,” Tunji-Ojo said.

“Nobody is sleeping; we’re working. This security issue is a national concern, and I won’t refuse responsibility on behalf of the President.”

“I assure Nigerians we’re on top of the security situation,” he added.

Tunji-Ojo acknowledged the need to address underlying issues.

“Under President Bola Tinubu, there’s determination to solve this. We must prevent similar issues from arising in the future.”

“Security is a growing concern; when you decimate one group, others may emerge,” he noted.

The minister stated that the security landscape has improved since last year but requires further enhancement, particularly in border security.

“We’re handling our conventional borders and working on porous ones,” he said.

“Solving century-old problems in one year is challenging, but we’re on the right track.”

“Nobody is resting until Nigerians can sleep with their eyes closed,” Tunji-Ojo emphasized.

He urged patience and support, asking Nigerians not to judge President Tinubu.

“The President is sensitive to security challenges. Don’t judge this administration by assurance; actions speak louder,” he added.
