- Dr. Bichi explained that this move is aimed at preventing insecurity
The Kano State Government has established a seven-member committee, chaired by the Commander General of the Hisba Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Daurawa, to oversee the repatriation of Almajiri children to their respective states of origin.
The committee was inaugurated on Tuesday by Dr. Abdullahi Bichi, Secretary to the State Government, on behalf of Governor Abba Yusuf.
Dr. Bichi explained that this move is aimed at preventing insecurity, as the activities of these street children, who have occupied several public and private buildings, pose a growing threat.
He linked this situation to the influx of people from regions facing severe security challenges such as banditry and kidnappings.
The government is determined to ensure the safety of the state by clearing all sources of potential crime, he added. The committee’s responsibility will be to organize the safe repatriation of street children back to their states and local government areas of origin.
Sheikh Daurawa, responding on behalf of the committee, emphasized that recent protests involving street children committing various offenses underscored the need for immediate action. The board had previously identified areas where homeless individuals, including children, were living, some of whom were born and raised under dire conditions. The committee was established following an appeal to the government to address these concerns.
