The Ondo government has made November 15 a public holiday, allowing residents to travel to their voting areas before the governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set November 16 as the date for the state’s off-cycle governorship election.

In a statement, O.F Ayodele, permanent secretary, office of the head of service, explained that the public holiday would enable state workers to travel to their localities and cast their votes.

“The 2024 Governorship Election in Ondo State has been scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission to be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024,” the statement reads.

“To this end, the Ondo State Government has declared Friday, November 15, 2024, as Work-Free Day for Public Servants in the State to enable them to travel to their various communities to exercise their civic responsibilities.”

“All Accounting Officers are to note the content of this circular and disseminate the same to all staff of their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies.”

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa will face off against Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, and other contenders for the top elected position in Ondo on Saturday.
