- The initiative, in collaboration with agencies under the ministry, aims to provide reliable internet access and digital public services to even the most remote areas
The Federal Government has announced plans to complete the digitisation of all 774 Local Government headquarters across Nigeria by 2027.
Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ retreat on Project 774 Connectivity in Abuja. The initiative, in collaboration with agencies under the ministry, aims to provide reliable internet access and digital public services to even the most remote areas.
“The goal is that by 2027, we will have reached all 774 LGAs,” Tijani said, adding that the project’s focus is on fostering inclusive development, boosting local businesses, and enhancing governance.
The minister emphasised the critical role of LGAs in delivering healthcare, education, and social welfare services. He noted that connecting Local Government Secretariats would improve access to essential services and promote digital skills and innovation.
Oluyomi Arowosafe, Executive Secretary of the Universal Service Provision Fund, highlighted that extending internet access to underserved areas will support social equity and inclusiveness.
