A ghastly auto crash in Jigawa State has claimed the lives of at least three people.
14 more were injured in the horrific mishap that happened in Gwaram Local Government Area of the State.
The accident was reportedly caused by a speeding J5 vehicle ramming into a stationary Dangote trailer along old Gwaram Road.
Police spokesman DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam also confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement: “Police on Tuesday at about 6:30 pm received a report that a J5 bus with registration No. KTG 196 XC, driven by one Wada Shuaibu of Laya village, Gwaram LGA, conveying 17 passengers from Sara market heading to Laya village, had an accident.
“On reaching Kwanar Mangwarori along old Gwaram road, the driver hit an empty Dangote trailer with registration No. BNK 447 XA, coming from old Gwaram to Kano State.”
He said as a result of the incident, the occupants of the J5 bus were injured to varying degrees.
DSP Shiisu Adam said on receiving the report, a team of policemen was dispatched to the spot and evacuated the victims to Gwaram Cottage Hospital for medical attention.
He said three of the victims died while others are still receiving treatment in the hospital.
After they were certified dead, the corpses of the deceased were released to their families, he added.
The police spokesman further said that an investigation has been launched and efforts are underway to locate and arrest the driver
