- Governor Seyi Makinde urged Ondo voters to stay at polling units after voting to protect their ballots from manipulation during elections
- PDP leaders emphasized the importance of vigilance in the upcoming election, stating a victory would end poverty and hardship in Ondo
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has called on Ondo State voters to remain at the polling units after casting their votes, ensuring their ballots are protected from any “manipulation.”
Speaking on Thursday during the final rally of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) campaign in Akure, Makinde, who leads the PDP in the South West, emphasized the importance of voter presence at the polling centers.
“After voting on Saturday, stay behind to ensure your vote is counted, recorded accurately, and then follow the results to the collation centers to prevent manipulation,” he urged.
However, he reminded supporters to avoid violence or intimidation and to use their votes to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election.
PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, also encouraged vigilance among Ondo voters, stressing that the outcome would greatly impact the state’s future.
“A PDP victory on Saturday will signal the end of poverty and hardship in Ondo State,” he asserted, while presenting the party’s flag to governorship candidate Agboola Ajayi.
Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, also urged residents to support Ajayi, while actress Rita Orji advised voters to accept any monetary incentives from the APC but vote for PDP. “They’ll start crediting your accounts tonight. Take it, but reclaim your state,” she said.
Several dignitaries attended the rally, including Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
Atiku Abubakar, PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, was absent from the event but had previously expressed his support for Ajayi through a statement from his media office.
