- This latest funding follows an earlier allocation of $1.8 million in October, bringing IOM’s total flood relief funding in Nigeria for 2024 to over $2.4 million
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has announced an additional $668,000 in funding through its Rapid Response Fund to provide emergency humanitarian relief for communities affected by severe flooding across Nigeria.
Paola Pace, IOM Nigeria’s Chief of Mission ad interim, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday. The new funds will support local humanitarian operations by IOM’s partners—Relief Rescue Initiative, Safer World Foundation, and the Community Engagement and Social Development Initiative—in Jigawa, Katsina, and Bauchi States, where tens of thousands have been impacted by floods.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance, whose generous contributions make this response possible,” the statement said, acknowledging the importance of international support.
This latest funding follows an earlier allocation of $1.8 million in October, bringing IOM’s total flood relief funding in Nigeria for 2024 to over $2.4 million. The funds will be used to provide emergency shelter, clean water, sanitation facilities, and multi-purpose cash assistance to more than 228,000 people.
IOM is coordinating with governmental agencies, local authorities, and humanitarian partners to ensure the aid reaches those in need efficiently and effectively.
