  • Akingboye commended the turnout of voters, assuring that more people would still come out to exercise their franchise.
  • He lauded the security agents for beefing up security around all polling units for safety of INEC staffers and voters.

Bamidele Akingboye, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the Ondo governorship election, expressed confidence in his victory to “rescue his people from poverty and hunger.”

Akingboye cast his vote at polling unit 10, ward 2, Okitipupa LGA of the state.

After voting, Akingboye stated that he expected a free, fair, and credible election from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), free from manipulation.

The SDP candidate showed willingness to concede defeat if the electoral process was transparent and fair, prioritizing democracy over personal ambition.

“I am optimistic to win so as to deliver my people from hunger and poverty. This is one of the reasons why I worked very hard to get the ticket of SDP,” NAN quoted Akingboye as saying.

Akingboye praised INEC’s punctuality and dedication, noting that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) ensured a secure voting process.

He also commended security agents for tightening security around polling units, ensuring the safety of INEC staff and voters.

Akingboye noted that the impressive voter turnout was commendable, and he expected even more citizens to exercise their right to vote.

Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Abbas Mimiko of the ZLP are the top contenders in the election.
