APC records landslide victory in Ogun LGA elections

The election was held on November 16 across the 20 LGAs and 236 wards.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all 20 chairmanship seats in Ogun state’s local government elections.

Babatunde Osibodu, chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), revealed the results on Sunday in Abeokuta.

The APC also secured all 236 councillorship seats in the state, according to Osibodu.

The election took place on Saturday.

A total of 613,156 votes were cast in the chairmanship election, spread across 236 council wards in the 20 local governments.

Ogun governor, Dapo Abiodun, observed that the impressive turnout reflected the people’s trust in democracy.

Abiodun praised OGSIEC for conducting a smooth process, citing encouraging reports from the field.

“The feedback I have gotten has been very encouraging,” he said.

“In any election, we can’t rule out logistics hiccups, but, by and large, electoral materials have reached all the nooks and crannies of the state and voting has commenced in earnest.”

Abiodun commended the law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police, NSCDC, DSS, and others.

The governor acknowledged their collaborative efforts in ensuring a peaceful election.

Prior to the polls, Abiodun expressed confidence that the APC would win the LGA elections.

He attributed this to the “intimidating projects” executed by his government, which he believed had “silenced” opposition parties.
