The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured a clean sweep, winning all 14 chairmanship seats in Zamfara’s local government election.

Bala Aliyu, chairman of the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC), revealed the results on Sunday in Gusau.

Aliyu disclosed that the APC won all 147 councillorship seats, with 18 parties participating.

“Based on the results announced by the Electoral and Returning Officers at different collation centres, at the end of the exercise, 14 candidates of the PDP won the chairmanship positions,” NAN quoted Aliyu as saying.

“The 147 candidates of the same party won all the councillorship positions in the state.

“We appreciate stakeholders, especially security agencies, media organisations, CSOs, NGOs as well as political parties.”

The election commission praised the peaceful conduct of the election across Zamfara, noting the electorate’s commendable orderliness.

Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal commended voters for their massive turnout and peaceful conduct on Saturday.

Lawal emphasized the significance of local government elections, pointing out that councils are closest to the people, enabling them to address grassroots development needs.

“You know, elections are all about people and development, the election process starts from LGs to the state,” Lawal said.

“The LG poll is important with local government councils being the third tier of government and most closer to the people.”
