- The initiative hope to expand the tax net without raising rates
The Akwa Ibom State Revenue Service will fully digitalise its tax collection processes starting in 2025, the agency’s Executive Chairman, Mr Okon Okon, announced on Sunday in Uyo.
The initiative will include e-tax assessments, e-filing, and automated clearance to enhance efficiency and expand the tax net without raising rates.
“Our focus is to eliminate manual processes, increase compliance, and boost revenue through technology and awareness campaigns,” Okon stated.
He highlighted a steady rise in the state’s internally generated revenue, which grew from ₦34.75 billion in 2022 to ₦43.18 billion in 2023, attributing the success to governance reforms and business-friendly policies under Governor Umo Eno.
