- Laolu Akande urged Nigerians to focus on pressing national issues rather than controversial remarks made by UK minister Kemi Badenoch
- Akande praised the Supreme Court for dismissing a lawsuit hindering anti-corruption efforts, emphasizing the need for collective focus on governance
Laolu Akande, former presidential spokesman, has advised Nigerians to shift their attention from the controversial remarks made by Kemi Badenoch, the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party leader, and concentrate on addressing the nation’s pressing challenges.
During his segment on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Sunday, Akande criticized the uproar over Badenoch’s comments.
The UK minister, who spent part of her childhood in Nigeria, recently stated that she would not want the UK to emulate Nigeria’s situation—a remark that sparked widespread criticism from Nigerians.
“Our obsession with Mrs. Badenoch’s comments is entirely diversionary,” Akande stated. “Who cares what she thinks? The real issue is the state of our country. We should be channelling our energy toward pressing our leaders to tackle fundamental problems like fixing the national power grid.”
In the same segment, Akande lauded the Nigerian Supreme Court for dismissing a lawsuit filed by 19 state governments challenging the operations of key anti-corruption agencies, including the EFCC, ICPC, and NFIU. He referred to the case as a self-serving attempt to hinder Nigeria’s fight against corruption.
“The 7-member Supreme Court panel unanimously dismissed the suit, labelling it ‘selfish,’” Akande explained. “This ruling is a reassuring step in our fight against corruption. It proves that while Nigeria faces significant challenges, there is hope for redemption if we stay steadfast.”
Akande concluded by urging Nigerians to direct their energy toward advocating for solutions to the country’s systemic issues rather than being distracted by external opinions. “Our focus should be on what truly matters—demanding better governance and working toward a more prosperous nation.”
