Former Kano State Governor and NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has accused Lagos of attempting to dominate the northern region.

Speaking at a convocation ceremony at Skyline University in Kano, Kwankwaso alleged interference in Kano’s emirate affairs and economic exploitation by Lagos.

“There is a concerted effort from the Lagos axis to colonise this part of the country,” he said. “Lagos wouldn’t allow us to choose an emir; they impose their own.”

He also criticised tax policies, claiming that resources generated in Kano and other northern states were being siphoned to Lagos.

“Even taxes from phone registrations and businesses here are diverted to Lagos. Many northern companies and banks are compelled to move their headquarters there,” Kwankwaso added.

The former governor warned of the widening gap between the rich and poor, calling it a dangerous trend. He urged northern lawmakers to remain vigilant against policies detrimental to the region’s interests.
