President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved ₦5 billion for research activities in 2024 through the National Research Fund, which is managed by TETFund.

This initiative, announced by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, aims to address critical national development challenges by supporting targeted research efforts in public tertiary institutions.

Dr. Alausa revealed this during his Sunday inspection of the venue for the 2024 TETFund National Research Fair and Exhibition in Abuja.

He highlighted the government’s commitment to leveraging research and innovation to fuel economic growth. Alausa added that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda relies heavily on local research and technological advancements, stressing that economic progress is impossible without effectively utilizing research outputs.

“This Research Fair seeks to promote collaboration among research and technology agencies to accelerate their contributions to nation-building,” the minister stated.

Alausa also emphasized plans better to coordinate research and innovation institutions across various ministries to ensure their efforts have maximum impact.

He noted that the National Research Fund will be strengthened with resources from the public, private, and international sectors. This support will empower researchers, engineers, and innovators to develop solutions to critical national issues such as energy, healthcare, agriculture, water supply, and communications.

Expressing satisfaction with TETFund’s efforts, the minister praised Nigeria’s wealth of academic institutions, intellectual professionals, and natural resources. He affirmed that these assets position the country to transition into a knowledge-driven economy.
