Troops nab notorious Taraba kidnapper who abducted 20, extorted over N70m ransom


A notorious and fearsome kidnapper in Taraba State, Suleiman Ahmad, has been apprehended by men of the Nigerian military.

The suspect was arrested at the weekend in Bomanda village of Lau Local Government Council of the state.

Ahmad was arrested by troops from 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS.

Following the operation, the troops promised to continue to deploy all necessary resources to dismantle criminal networks in the middle belt State.

In a statement signed by the Brigade’s acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Oni Olubodunde, the suspect confessed to having abducted about 20 individuals in Lau Local Government and extorted over N70 million from his victims.

Acting on the suspect’s confession, the troops launched a follow-up operation on November 15, 2024, leading to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle from a concealed location.

Additionally, the troops arrested one of Ahmad’s accomplices, identified as Hussaini, a suspected gunrunner, at his residence in the Mayo Dassa area of Lau Local Government Council.

“We will continue to deploy all necessary resources to dismantle criminal networks and protect law-abiding residents from the scourge of kidnapping and other forms of violent crime,” the statement said
