- Ribadu described the council’s establishment as a significant step toward safeguarding key components of Nigeria’s infrastructure
The Federal Government on Monday inaugurated a Coordinating Council for Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Protection (FCCCNAIP) in Abuja, chaired by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu.
Ribadu described the council’s establishment as a significant step toward safeguarding key components of Nigeria’s infrastructure, including energy grids, communication networks, and transportation systems, against growing threats such as terrorism, cyber-attacks, and sabotage.
“This council is a proactive measure to foster collaboration and ensure the resilience and sustainability of our critical infrastructure, which is vital to our national security and economic stability,” Ribadu said.
Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the council’s co-chair, vowed to end vandalism and pledged the ministry’s full support, including efforts by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to protect critical infrastructure.
The need for the council is underscored by rising attacks on infrastructure, particularly electricity transmission towers. Over 119 towers have been destroyed this year, including a recent attack on the Lokoja–Gwagwalada line where three towers were damaged on November 15.
Tunji-Ojo expressed confidence in the council’s ability to tackle these challenges, promising, “We will do all we can to ensure the protection of our nation’s assets.”
