- The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority launched a campaign to educate passengers on their rights amid rising complaints about flight disruptions and delays
- NCAA officials urged passengers to arrive early for flights and highlighted compensation regulations for missing baggage during the festive travel season
As the yuletide season approaches, bringing increased air travel, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has launched a campaign to address flight disruptions.
Yesterday, the agency held a roadshow at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) to educate passengers on their rights and responsibilities.
This initiative follows a surge in complaints about flight delays, cancellations, and missing luggage. Starting at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT), also known as Domestic Terminal One, the roadshow will extend to other major airports in the coming days.
The campaign aims to inform passengers about their entitlements when faced with flight delays, cancellations, or baggage issues. During the event, the NCAA team visited other terminals at MMIA, including Murtala Muhammed Terminal Two (MMA2), operated by Bi-Courtney.
Consumer protection officers urged passengers to arrive on time for flights—two hours before domestic departures and three hours for international flights.
Michael Achimugu, NCAA Director of Public Relations and Consumer Protection, stated that the roadshow aims to ensure passengers and airlines are well-informed during the busy travel period.
“This festive season brings high travel demand, and passengers need to know their responsibilities,” Achimugu said.
He explained that NCAA regulations require immediate compensation on missing baggage: N10,000 for domestic flights and $170 for international ones.
The initiative underscores NCAA’s commitment to reducing travel disruptions and enhancing passenger experience during the holiday season.
