President Bola Tinubu has hailed a new chapter for Nigeria’s solid minerals sector, describing it as crucial to driving economic growth and shared prosperity.
Speaking at the 9th Nigerian Mining Week in Abuja, Tinubu, represented by Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Uche Nnaji, highlighted significant progress achieved in the past year.
“Our mining industry has the potential to boost the economy and guarantee shared prosperity,” Tinubu said. He credited Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Henry Oladele Alake, with addressing challenges and positioning the sector as a foundation for growth.
Tinubu announced reforms aimed at increasing transparency and international competitiveness to attract investments. He also stressed environmental sustainability and community welfare as key priorities for the sector’s transformation.
The event, themed “Building the Mining Sector to Become a Cornerstone of Nigeria’s Economy,” focused on strategies to make mining a central driver of Nigeria’s economic diversification.
