The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commended the Federal Government’s dismissal of the governing council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, describing it as a firm warning to other university councils acting arbitrarily.

ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke stated that the removal of the recently appointed Vice Chancellor, Dr. Bernard Odoh, was a step in the right direction.

He emphasized that it is crucial for governing councils to adhere strictly to established rules and guidelines in university administration.

In an interview, Osodeke said, “This action is a strong message to university councils nationwide. They must always ensure their actions are in line with the rules and regulations governing the institutions.”

He added that such decisive actions are necessary to maintain order and prevent mismanagement within Nigeria’s higher education system.

The union reiterated that adherence to due process is non-negotiable for institutional integrity and effective governance.
