Three killed in Nasarawa farmers-herders clash

  • Nadada disclosed that four other persons were injured during the violent confrontation and were rushed to the hospital.

A deadly clash between farmers and herders in Nasarawa State has claimed at least three lives.

The clash happened on Monday around 4:30 PM in Dogon Duste community located between Nasarawa and Toto Local Government Areas.

Umar Nadada, the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, confirmed the development while addressing newsmen in Lafia, the state capital, on Thursday.

Nadada disclosed that four other persons were injured during the violent confrontation and were rushed to the hospital.

“The Divisional Police Officer, DPO received a report about the clash. Upon reaching the scene, it was discovered that two individuals had been killed on a farm while four others sustained injuries and were rushed to a primary healthcare facility for treatment,” he said.

During a subsequent search operation, police recovered an additional body from the bush, raising the death toll to three.

Nadada assured that calm and normalcy had been restored in the area and stated that the command’s commitment to investigating the incident thoroughly.

“The police are working closely with the community to arrest those responsible for this violence and ensure they face justice,” he added.

The commissioner urged residents to maintain close collaboration with security agencies to strengthen security measures across the state.

“The protection of life and property is a collective responsibility. We urge all residents to partner with the police to tackle security challenges effectively,” Nadada said.

He highlighted the progress made by the command in addressing insecurity, attributing successes to public collaboration and government support.

“Nasarawa State is recognized as one of the most peaceful states in the country due to our collaborative policing strategy and the active involvement of community members,” Nadada stated
