- NAFDAC said the quantity of MSG discovered exceeded the approved limit, prompting immediate action
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed a warehouse in Sokoto State after discovering 5,347 bags of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) and other unregistered food products.
The warehouse, operated by Dee-Lite IMPEX Distribution Co. Ltd, is located on Coca-Cola Road, off Western Bypass, Sokoto.
According to a statement issued by NAFDAC on Monday, the company was found selling raw MSG, which was imported under a processing permit, directly as a finished product – a violation of the agency’s regulations.
NAFDAC said the quantity of MSG discovered exceeded the approved limit, prompting immediate action. Additionally, unregistered products, including 193 cartons of Orange Fruity and 71 cartons of Toffeeman Coconut Bites, were confiscated.
Further investigations at Sokoto Old Market uncovered another 235 bags of FUFENG Monosodium Glutamate stored in various shops. These items were placed on hold by NAFDAC officials.
The agency confirmed that a representative of the company has been arrested and is undergoing interrogation as regulatory sanctions are being pursued.
NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing food safety standards and protecting consumers from unregistered and improperly regulated products.
