  • Obasanjo had described Nigeria under Tinubu as a failing state.
  • Onanuga had said the former president was not an ideal Nigerian leader.

The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy national chairman, Bode George, has said that Bayo Onanuga will face consequences for insulting ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Recall that on November 16 at Yale University, Obasanjo called the 2023 general election a “travesty”.

Obasanjo cited widespread corruption, poor leadership, and immorality as causes of Nigeria’s insecurity and underdevelopment.

He described Nigeria’s situation as chaotic under the current administration.

The term “Emilokan” was popularized during President Bola Tinubu’s election campaign.

Obasanjo advocated for new INEC leaders with short tenures to prevent corruption.

Onanuga criticized Obasanjo, saying he left unresolved problems and presided over Nigeria’s most fraudulent election.

Onanuga also faulted Obasanjo for publicly sharing his views on leadership.

George said Onanuga will face repercussions for insulting an elder, as Yoruba culture forbids this.

The PDP chieftain criticized Onanuga for blasting Obasanjo, who is old enough to be his father.

George noted that Onanuga’s behavior is typical, citing a past incident.

George emphasized that Yoruba culture does not tolerate insults towards elders.

He warned Onanuga to be vigilant, as he may face consequences for his actions.

In his words, George said “An old man who could be Bayo Onanuga’s father said something, and you took him on by blasting him right, left, and centre.

“That is his style because he did it to me before; he didn’t meet me at Ijebu Ode Grammar School.

“You can see how small he is when comparing himself to us; people give their opinion, and you insult them.

“Even if you want to react, the Yoruba culture does not allow that insult from him.

“Someday he would pay back, because there would be a day after, and that’s more important.

“He should be vigilant as he walks because it’s possible for him.”
