- The protest was triggered by the AEDC management’s failure to address unresolved welfare demands, despite an ultimatum issued by the union
Electricity workers under the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), FCT Council, partially disrupted operations at the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) headquarters on Wednesday.
The industrial action affected the resolution of customer complaints and electricity supply in some parts of the capital.
The protest was triggered by the AEDC management’s failure to address unresolved welfare demands, despite an ultimatum issued by the union.
Workers blocked the headquarters’ entrance, chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards demanding payment of 15 months’ salaries and pensions, as well as protesting casualisation and board interference.
AEDC’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Adefisayo Akinsaya, confirmed the industrial action but noted it had been resolved, with operations returning to normal. The strike was called off earlier in the day following an agreement between the union and AEDC management.
