- The collaboration introduces instant settlement for transactions, improving cash flow for merchants and expanding access to financial services in underserved regions
OPay, a leading financial technology firm, has embraced Nigeria’s domestic payment card, AfriGO, to enhance digital financial services.
AfriGO, the country’s National Domestic Card Scheme, is operated by Afrigopay Financial Services Limited (AFSL), a subsidiary of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS).
According to OPay’s Managing Director, Dauda Gotring, this move aligns with the company’s mission to simplify Nigerian financial services. He emphasized that the partnership with AfriGO reflects OPay’s commitment to making financial transactions more accessible and efficient.
“The OPay/AfriGO card is more than just a product—it’s a solution for reaching underserved communities,” Gotring explained. He added that the card would provide affordable payment options, support instant transaction settlements, and expand financial inclusion nationwide.
Ebehijie Momoh, AFSL’s Managing Director, highlighted the partnership’s transformative potential. She noted that it would improve financial service delivery in areas with limited banking services.
By leveraging agent networks, the initiative will support local businesses with services like deposits, withdrawals, money transfers, and purchases.
Momoh also detailed the card’s advanced features, which include robust technology and strong liquidity management for secure and seamless operations. The AfriGO Instant Settlement feature ensures immediate transaction finalization, offering merchants better cash flow and reduced risks.
“This collaboration will make financial services faster and more accessible, particularly in underserved regions,” she concluded.
The OPay and AfriGO partnership marks a significant step in driving financial inclusion and improving digital payment solutions across Nigeria.
