Nigeria’s lower legislative chamber, the House of Representatives has confirmed Lit-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff.
Oluyede confirmation on Thursday followed his screening on Wednesday by the Joint Committees on Defence and Army.
The committee Chairman, Babajimi Benson submitted the report during plenary and urged the House to confirm Oluyede; a prayer granted at the session presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu.
Benson said the committee reviewed the CV of Oluyede, asked him questions on national security issues and that he gave a good account of himself.
He said the committee was satisfied with the experience and capacity of Oluyede to occupy the office of COAS, and therefore, recommended that his appointment be confirmed.
The House approved the confirmation of the appointment through an unanimous voice vote after clause-by-clause consideration of the report.
Oluyede will be succeeding Taoreed Lagbaja who died after battling an undisclosed illness last month.
