The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) task force, Operation Whirlwind, has intercepted smuggled goods valued at over ₦81.5 million in Adamawa State.
Comptroller H.K. Ejhunu, the National Coordinator of the operation, disclosed that the confiscated items include 11,124 jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 53 drums of 200 liters each filled with PMS, and 21,000 liters of PMS transported in two fuel tankers.
In addition, operatives seized five vehicles and two motorcycles used in smuggling activities. One suspect has been arrested and is currently facing prosecution.
Ejhunu noted that the team’s actions have ensured the state’s stable and sufficient supply of petroleum products.
He also stated that due to the explosive nature of the seized PMS, it would be auctioned to the public under the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023 provisions, with proceeds remitted to the federation account.
Reaffirming the agency’s dedication to supporting legitimate trade, the comptroller vowed to intensify the fight against smugglers and economic saboteurs. He encouraged lawful oil marketers to continue their operations without fear of harassment or seizure.
This operation highlights the Customs Service’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the nation’s economy and resources.
