- The gang reportedly exploited bad road conditions to target motorists forced to slow down, stealing valuables such as phones and bags
Four suspected traffic robbers have been arrested in their hideout in the Mushin area of Lagos State, the Lagos State Task Force announced on Thursday.
The suspects, identified as Ismail Akinlade (26), Rasak Abiodun (25), Adefabi Gbolahan (25), and Rilwan Olaloye (20), were apprehended after investigations linked them to multiple thefts targeting motorists.
Ismail Akinlade confessed to handing stolen items to the gang’s leader, who remains at large. “Whenever I steal, I give the phone to Number One at Mushin, who sells the loot. Later, we collect the cash proceeds and spend it on drugs and gambling,” he said.
The gang reportedly exploited bad road conditions to target motorists forced to slow down, stealing valuables such as phones and bags.
Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, said the arrests followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance, culminating in the recovery of a stolen phone traced to the Idi-Oro area of Mushin.
“These individuals distract motorists to steal valuables from vehicles. They will be charged to court immediately,” Akerele stated. He warned others involved in similar crimes to desist or face prosecution.
