Alhassan Yahaya, the National Deputy President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has emerged as the new National President of the union.
A total of 602 delegates from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, including the Federal Capital Territory, gathered in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State, to elect the new leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Yahaya won the election with 436 votes, defeating Dele Atunbi, the outgoing National Treasurer, who secured 97 votes, and Garba Muhammad, who polled 39 votes.
Also, a Deputy Director with Radio Nigeria, Mrs Abimbola Oyetunde emerged as Deputy National President of the Union unopposed.
The new leadership will steer the affairs of the union for the next three years.
