- NAHCON urged affected pilgrims to claim their refunds and advised future pilgrims to make early deposits for the 2025 Hajj
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has refunded N5.3 billion to stakeholders over services not properly rendered during the 2023 Hajj.
The refund includes N4.47 billion to State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the Armed Forces, while N917.14 million was allocated to 192 accredited tour operators.
NAHCON stated that the funds are meant for onward disbursement to affected pilgrims. It assured that the remaining tour operators would also receive refunds after final reconciliations.
The commission highlighted the move as a demonstration of its commitment to transparency and accountability under the leadership of Chairman/CEO, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman. Each pilgrim is entitled to a refund of N61,080.
NAHCON urged participants of the 2023 Hajj to contact their respective State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, agencies, or tour operators to claim their refunds.
Additionally, the commission advised prospective pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj to deposit their fares early with their respective boards. It stressed that timely payments would help streamline arrangements in line with Saudi Arabia’s guidelines.
To ensure transparency, NAHCON called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), and other security agencies to monitor the refund process.
This collaboration ensures that the funds reach the intended beneficiaries without discrepancies.
