- Responding to allegations of data manipulation, Onanuga emphasised the NBS’s independence and rigorous methodologies, describing critics’ claims as unfounded
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has cautioned Nigerians against dismissing the recently released Q3 2024 GDP report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The report revealed a 3.46% year-on-year growth in real GDP.
Responding to allegations of data manipulation, Onanuga emphasised the NBS’s independence and rigorous methodologies, describing critics’ claims as unfounded. He accused some Nigerians of selectively endorsing negative economic data while rejecting positive indicators.
“The NBS employs transparent and continually refined methodologies to ensure data reliability. This independence and objectivity should not be questioned,” he said.
Onanuga highlighted that the growth reflects the success of government initiatives in boosting the service sector, stock and bond markets, and job creation. He urged Nigerians to recognise progress despite ongoing challenges, noting that these developments are steps toward a stronger economy and better living standards.
“It’s important to celebrate progress while addressing challenges,” he added.
