In Oyo State, one Olamide Oladele has been remanded in an Ibadan correctional facility for allegedly killing an 11-month-old baby.
An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand of Oladele who is standing trial for murder.
The defendant was said to have committed the offence on November 22, at about 8.30 p.m, at Ajobo area, Ibadan.
The Magistrate, Mrs Kausarat Ayofe, rejected the plea of the defendant for lacking jurisdiction.
She directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Toyin Ibrahim, told the court that the defendant and one Sikiru Ridwan, 25, engaged in a brawl in a public place during which he threw a stone which incidentally hit an 11-month-old Erioluwa Odunayo on the forehead.
The toddler was strapped at the back of her mother, who was passing by at the time of the fight.
He said the stone, which caused the baby serious injury, eventually led to her death.
Meanwhile, Ridwan was charged with affray and conduct likely to cause the breach of peace by fighting.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Ibrahim said the offences contravened Sections 319, 83 and 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Ayofe granted Ridwan bail in the sum of N200,000 and two sureties in like sum and then adjourned the case to January 6, 2025, for hearing
