The Nigerian senate has come under intense scrutiny over its handling of the tax reform bills, which have been expedited to a second reading.

Abdullahi Wakili said that the swift passage of the bills raises significant concerns about transparency, intent, and motives.

The Kaduna north senatorial candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in the 2023 elections, expressed his deep-seated concerns about the hasty decision.

He stated that it sparks doubts among many Nigerians who deserve clarity on how these changes may affect their lives.

“It is disconcerting to witness these developments in a chamber that should prioritize citizens’ welfare over a rushed agenda,” Wakili said.

The PRP candidate commended Senator Ali Ndume for his courageous stand against the rapid passage of the tax reform bills, urging all senators to follow his lead and prioritize democracy, transparency, and accountability.

Wakili called for the immediate withdrawal of the Controversial Tax Reform Bills, emphasizing that such critical legislation cannot be hastily decided upon without extensive consultation and engagement with the Nigerian populace.

“We need more discussions, forums, and public inputs to ensure legislative measures align with the aspirations and realities of all Nigerians,” Wakili said.

Wakil implored the national assembly to take a step back and genuinely listen to the voices of the citizens they represent.

“It is only through engagement that we can serve the interests of all Nigerians and build a prosperous future together,” Wakili added.
