  • Recall that in October, Tinubu asked the national assembly to consider and pass four tax reform bills.
  • The legislations are the Nigeria Tax Bill, Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill.

The Ekiti state caucus in the national assembly has unanimously endorsed the tax reform bills proposed by President Bola Tinubu.

In recent days, there has been intense debate over the tax reform bills, with various stakeholders weighing in on their potential impact nationwide.

However, in a statement jointly signed by nine lawmakers in Ekiti, expressed optimism that the inherent value of the proposed reforms will drive economic growth to the country.

The lawmakers are Opeyemi Bamidele, senator representing Ekiti central, Yemi Adaramodu, senator representing Ekiti south, Cyril Fasuyi, senator representing Ekiti north.

Also in signatory are Olufemi Bamisile, rep member representing Ekiti south federal constituency, Olusola Fatoba, rep member representing Ado/Irepodun-Ifelodun federal constituency.

Others are Biodun Omoleye, rep member representing Ekiti north federal constituency II, Rufus Ojuawo, member representing Ekiti south federal constituency, Akinlayo Kolawole, member representing Ekiti west federal constituency, and Akin Rotimi, rep member representing Ekiti north federal constituency I.

The lawmakers said Bamidele, majority leader of the senate, led the caucus in active consultations and ensuring commitment to bill passage in both chambers.

The national assembly members, after engaging with Biodun Oyebanji, the state governor, and other stakeholders in Ekiti, expressed confidence in the proposed reforms.

“These reforms will simplify the tax system, foster local entrepreneurship, attract investment, and create employment opportunities, driving economic growth across the state and the nation, the statement reads.

“The establishment of the Tax Appeal Tribunal and the Office of the Tax Ombudsman will further entrench transparency, accountability, and fairness in tax administration, protecting taxpayers’ rights and fostering trust in the system.

“The Ekiti State Caucus encourages constructive debates, recognising that such discussions enrich our democratic processes.

“We also call on all stakeholders, including state governments, private sector leaders, civil society, and citizens, to support these transformative bills. Their success is not only a win for the Tinubu administration but also a critical step toward building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.

“As representatives of Ekiti State, we remain resolute in our support for initiatives that prioritise economic growth and enhance the welfare of our people.

“These reforms underscore our collective commitment to a better future, and we urge all Nigerians to embrace this bold step toward national development.”
