Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have uncovered a gun manufacturing factory operated by a family, arresting one suspect, David Nse Emmanuel, while other members of the syndicate, including his father and brothers, escaped.
The Commissioner of Police, Joseph O. Eribo, disclosed this during a press briefing in Uyo, the state capital, while highlighting the command’s recent achievements in fighting crime.
Acting on credible intelligence, police raided the factory where firearms of various types were fabricated and sold to criminals. Recovered items included various makes of firearms and materials used in their construction.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, who are believed to have been running the illegal operation for some time.
In another development, police arrested a suspected child trafficker, Promise Boniface, at Obio Ibiono after receiving a distress call from a woman reporting that five of her children had been abducted. The children were rescued unharmed and reunited with their parents, while the motorcycle used in the crime was recovered. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
