- Henry Okadigbo also acknowledged Governor Nwifuru’s efforts in ensuring the airport’s infrastructure was fully functional
The family of the late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo, a former President of the Nigerian Senate, has expressed deep appreciation following the naming of an international airport in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, after him.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Dr. Okadigbo’s younger brother, Henry Okadigbo, thanked both the federal and Ebonyi state governments for the honour, calling it a fitting tribute to his late sibling’s legacy.
The statement highlighted the roles played by President Bola Tinubu, First Lady Remi Tinubu, Works Minister Dave Umahi, and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru in the establishment of the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport. Henry Okadigbo also acknowledged Governor Nwifuru’s efforts in ensuring the airport’s infrastructure was fully functional.
Describing the naming of the airport as a source of pride, Henry Okadigbo reflected on his brother’s commitment to serving Nigeria and his belief in the power of unity and diversity. “Dr. Okadigbo dedicated himself to the service of our nation, tirelessly working to ensure that the voices of the marginalized were heard and that every Nigerian had the opportunity to reach their individual destinies,” he said.
He went on to describe the airport as more than just a symbol of recognition but also a reflection of his brother’s dreams for a united and prosperous Nigeria. “This airport is not merely an honour, but a living embodiment of his aspirations for a united and prosperous nation,” Henry Okadigbo added.
The family also expressed hope that the airport would provide economic opportunities for Ebonyi State and beyond, serving as a reminder of Nigeria’s potential for unity and progress.
The Chuba Okadigbo International Airport is expected to be a major infrastructure project for the region, creating jobs and fostering economic growth.
