- The refusal of the anti-graft agency to reveal the owner of the property has been met by outrage and castigation
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has reacted to mounting public pressure demanding it divulges the identity of the owner of the humongous landed property it seized in Abuja.
The EFCC had on Tuesday, in what it described as its single largest recovery since its establishment, disclosed a top government official had forfeited 753 duplexes and other apartments in Lokogoma District, Abuja.
No sooner had the news broke than members of the public, especially on social media, began to demand the disclosure of the name of the government official that forfeited the property.
The refusal of the anti-graft agency to reveal the owner of the property has been met by outrage and castigation.
Reacting to the uproar, the EFCC revealed why it can’t disclosed the identity of the politician involved in the heinous grand larceny.
In a statement signed by its spokesman, Dele Oyewale, on Tuesday, the agency said ongoing criminal investigation investigation into the matter precluded it from sharing information on the identity of the owner of the property.
“It is important to note that the substantive criminal investigation on the matter still continues.
“It will be unprofessional of the EFCC to go to town by mentioning names of individuals whose identities were not directly linked to any title document of the properties.
“The EFCC is unwavering in its no-sacred-cow approach to every matter and together we will make Nigeria greater,” the statement read in part.
