253 Transformers, Worth N675 Million, Vandalized in Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Faces Infrastructure Crisis Amid Surge in Transformer Vandalism

253 Transformers

Bayelsa State has reported the vandalization of 253 electric transformers, valued at N675 million. This alarming incident has raised concerns across the state.

Earlier reports revealed that 19 power towers connecting Bayelsa to the national grid from Ahoada, Rivers State, were also vandalized. The resulting blackout allowed criminals to target and loot the transformers.

Acting Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo launched a 10-member anti-vandalism committee in Yenagoa. During the inauguration, he issued a stern warning to community leaders.

He stated that leaders who fail to protect transformers and other electrical infrastructure in their areas will face sanctions for future vandalism incidents.

This development highlights the urgent need for communities to collaborate in safeguarding critical infrastructure to prevent further losses.
