  • The arrests followed legal disputes over the military’s demolition of Okuama after 17 soldiers were killed

The President-General of Okuama Community, Pa James Oghoroko, has died in military detention after months of alleged torture.

Oghoroko, detained since August alongside other leaders, was reportedly subjected to inhumane treatment. Another detainee, Pa Dennis Okugbaye, is said to be in critical condition.

The arrests followed legal disputes over the military’s demolition of Okuama after 17 soldiers were killed.

Lawyers had filed lawsuits seeking justice and bail for the detained leaders, but Oghoroko passed away before the next court hearing on December 9.
