  • Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that security at the Bichi Emir’s Palace has been beefed up, with armed policemen taking strategic positions in and around the palace.

Residents of Kano State were on Friday enveloped by trepidation and uncertainty amid the presence of a clutch of menacing and heavily armed security operatives at the Emir of Kano palace at Kofar Kudu.

The security operatives, comprising men of the Nigerian police force and State Security Service (SSS) reportedly surrounded the palace, restricting movements in around the its premises.

The development, DAILY POST reports, is not unconnected to decision of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II to install his newly appointed Wamban Kano, District Head of Bichi.

Emir Sanusi II was reportedly billed to follow the newly appointed Wamban Kano, Munir Sanusi, to his official district posting in Bichi.

Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that security at the Bichi Emir’s Palace has been beefed up, with armed policemen taking strategic positions in and around the palace.

Recall that a fortnight ago, the National Chairman of APC, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, while at Bichi, maintained that the Bichi Emirate Council remains valid and that Emir Nasiru Ado Bayero remains the legitimate emir.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, while acting on the newly passed Kano Emirate Council Law, abolished the position of the five emirs, removing them from their Emirates.

However, a few days later, the same government appointed three second-class emirs, excluding Bichi, which made a district head’s domain.

The abolition of the previous emirship arrangement under Ganduje by Governor Yusuf caused an upheaval that almost snowballed into all-out political crisis and anarchy.
