- The suspects, all male, were apprehended with firearms, ammunition, cash, and stolen items, including laptops, mobile phones, jewellery, and more
The Enugu State Police have arrested eight individuals, including a dismissed soldier, Sadik Ahmed, involved in an interstate criminal syndicate specializing in armed robbery and financial fraud.
The arrests were made following coordinated operations by the Emene Division, Crack and Octopus Tactical Squads, and the Neighbourhood Watch Group.
The suspects, all male, were apprehended with firearms, ammunition, cash, and stolen items, including laptops, mobile phones, jewellery, and more. Among the arrested were Ismaila Isah (23), Abbas Usman (33), Mubarak Garba (24), and Obiri Chukwuebuka (22).
The operation began on November 12, 2024, when police responded to a robbery in Emene. Isah was caught with a locally made pistol and stolen items.
His confession led to the arrest of the other suspects and the recovery of additional firearms and goods.
Investigations revealed that the syndicate used stolen mobile phones to withdraw funds from victims’ bank accounts, operating across Enugu and Imo States. Ahmed, exploiting his military background, helped the group evade security checkpoints.
