The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has emphasized the importance of Nigeria’s economic partnership with China in achieving its goal of becoming Africa’s innovation hub.
Speaking during a ministerial roundtable in Abuja on Friday with a delegation from the Mianyang Economic and Technology Development Zone in China, Tuggar, represented by Ambassador Akinremi A. Bolaji, the Director of the Economic, Trade, and Investment Department, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration.
He described the Chinese delegation’s visit as both timely and significant, aligning with Nigeria’s efforts to boost industrial development, expand technological collaboration, and promote sustainable economic growth.
Tuggar underscored Nigeria’s commitment to diversifying its economy and investing in critical sectors such as technology, infrastructure, manufacturing, and innovation.
In his remarks, the head of the Chinese delegation, Mr. Gu Yu, noted that their group was already involved in a pilot project in Osun State and expressed interest in expanding similar initiatives to other parts of Nigeria.
According to both parties, the partnership aims to create opportunities for technological transfer, infrastructure development, and industrial growth, positioning Nigeria as a leading innovation hub in Africa.
