  • Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo announced APGA’s readiness to form alliances with parties sharing genuine progressive ideologies ahead of the 2027 elections
  • Soludo emphasized APGA’s historical significance as Nigeria’s first progressive party, urging unity among like-minded political groups for national improvement

As preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify, Anambra State Governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has declared the party’s willingness to form alliances with other political parties that embrace genuine progressive ideologies.

Soludo announced this Friday during APGA’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

The governor emphasized APGA’s position as Nigeria’s foremost progressive movement, registered in 2002 as the first political party with a progressive ideology.

“Every other party with ‘progressive’ in their name came much later. APGA is alive, strong, and rising,” he stated. Soludo called on other progressive-minded parties to unite with APGA to build a better Nigeria.

Soludo’s comments come amid discussions involving prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, on the possibility of forming a coalition with the Senator Musa Kwankwaso-led New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to challenge the ruling APC in 2027.

He also highlighted APGA’s renewed strength following the Supreme Court’s recent ruling, which validated the party’s leadership. “Now that the courts have settled all disputes, we are poised to move forward.

APGA believes in fairness, equity, true federalism, and leaving no one behind. Our movement is strong and will only grow stronger,” Soludo affirmed.

Earlier, Barrister Sylvester Ezeokenwa, the APGA’s national chairman, spoke about the party’s transformation into a more disciplined and youth-inclusive organization.

He announced the party’s decision to grant amnesty to genuine members who had acted against party interests during its crisis. However, this amnesty does not extend to non-members who caused disruptions.

Ezeokenwa further revealed ongoing initiatives, including digitizing the party’s membership register and establishing skill acquisition centres through the newly launched APGA Foundation.

Prominent figures at the event included Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, wife of APGA’s pioneer National Leader, the late Odumegwu Ojukwu; Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia North; and Anambra State Deputy Governor Onyekachukwu Ibezi.

Their presence underscored APGA’s commitment to uniting and strengthening the progressive movement ahead of the 2027 elections.
