- The Kaduna State Government warned political appointees against irresponsible social media posts, emphasizing the potential harm to the government’s reputation
- A communiqué from a recent workshop highlighted the importance of professionalism and discipline in public service, urging adherence to established procedures
The Kaduna State Government has cautioned its political appointees to avoid irresponsible and random social media posts, warning that such actions could harm the government’s reputation and provoke public backlash.
This warning was part of a communiqué issued after a two-day capacity-building workshop organized by the Office of the Head of Service and the Principal Private Secretary to Governor Uba Sani.
The event, held from December 4 to 5, 2024, focused on improving professionalism and discipline in the state’s public service.
The communiqué, jointly signed by Alhaji Waziri Garba, Senior Special Assistant on Administration, and Malam Ibraheem Musa, Chief Press Secretary, emphasized that established frameworks, including the Scheme of Service, Stores Regulations, The Guide to Administrative Procedures, and Financial Instructions guide Kaduna’s public service.
It stated, “Political appointees are advised against making random and irresponsible posts on social media, as such comments could be misconstrued as representing the government’s position, thereby causing reputational damage or public outcry.”
The document also urged public servants to exhibit discipline, loyalty to the administration, courtesy, honesty, and cooperation.
It stressed the need for adherence to established procedures in conducting government business, warning that deviations could lead to systemic inefficiency and corruption.
Additionally, the communiqué highlighted the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in enhancing public service delivery while cautioning that technology should not undermine proper documentation and adherence to procedures in government activities.
Special attention was given to communication skills among Government House staff. The communiqué noted, “Government House employees, being closest to the seat of power, must be effective ambassadors of the administration. They should be able to articulate the government’s policies and initiatives clearly.”
Workshop participants lauded the initiative, describing it as the first in Kaduna’s history. They commended Governor Uba Sani’s leadership for prioritizing inclusion, pro-people policies, workers’ welfare, and continuous training for public servants.
The communiqué also recommended regular training for all categories of civil servants to sustain high standards in governance and service delivery.
