The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 42-year-old man, Friday Emenike, also known as Ekpo, for allegedly renting firearms to criminals for illegal operations.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, Emenike, who hails from Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was arrested following an investigation linking him to the crime.

“Police operatives from the Anambra State Police Command have arrested one Friday Emenike, Alias Ekpo, for allegedly renting guns to criminals operating within Awka and its environs,” Ikenga said.

The arrest followed a raid conducted on 7 December 2024 by officers attached to the Anti-Cultism Squad in Enugu Ukwu. Acting on credible intelligence, police stormed a black spot in Umunaga Village, Awka South Local Government Area. During the operation, two suspects—Okechukwu Chinwuko, 27, and Ezenwa Chinedu, 22—were arrested.
