A 22-year-old security guard has been apprehended by the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly vandalising armoured cables at the University of Ilorin.
Idris Ibrahim Kayode, employed as a private security guard at the university, was caught by local vigilantes in the early hours of Wednesday while tampering with the cables.
According to the NSCDC, the suspect was handed over to the corps for further investigation.
The Commandant, Dr Umar Muhammed, has ordered a thorough probe into the matter.
Once the investigation is concluded, the suspect will face charges in court.
The NSCDC has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure and ensuring that offenders face the law.
The corps is urging residents to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and assisting in ridding the state of criminal elements.
