The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has deployed a Special Operations Brigade to Sokoto and Kebbi States to intensify efforts against the Lakurawa Sect, a jihadist group in the region.

The deployment follows the success of Operation Forest Sanity III, code-named Chase Lakurawas Out, aimed at dismantling the sect.

Addressing the troops on Friday, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, Commander of Sector 2, Operation Fasan Yamma, urged them to adhere to rules of engagement while protecting law-abiding citizens.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 8 Division highlighted the professionalism and training of the brigade, expressing confidence in their ability to restore peace. “Nigerians are counting on you,” he said.

Operations conducted by the 8 Division have already targeted forests and enclaves across several local government areas, destroying 22 camps, neutralizing sect members, and recovering weapons, including rifles and ammunition.
