The Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, President of the Benue State Traditional Council, has urged politicians to avoid using the newly launched Benue State Civil Protection Guard (BSCPG) for political purposes.
Addressing the public during the inauguration ceremony held at Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) Square, Makurdi, Prof. Ayatse emphasized that the BSCPG was established solely to enhance state security.
He warned against diverting its operations to serve partisan interests.
The security initiative recently recruited 5,000 personnel and saw the commissioning of 100 operational Hilux vehicles and 600 motorcycles to support security operations across the state.
Commending the initiative, the Tor Tiv lauded Governor Hyacinth Alia for his commitment to addressing the state’s security challenges. He noted that Benue has taken a leading role in ensuring public safety.
Governor Alia reaffirmed his dedication to bolstering security in the state. He announced plans to recruit an additional 5,000 personnel for the BSCPG, fulfilling his earlier promise of 10,000 recruits.
“These efforts aim to combat criminal activities and create a peaceful environment conducive to economic growth,” the governor stated.
Additionally, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, urged the state to leverage the federal government’s Livestock Development Ministry.
He highlighted its potential to address the persistent herders-farmers conflicts in Benue.
