One Dare Adeleke, a casual factory worker, has lost his life in a work-related accident at Maigida Company in Ogun State.
Maigida is a subsidiary of Dangote Cement Industry, Ibese, Ewekoro Local Government Area, Ogun State.
The deceased was said to have been crushed to death by a machine roller after his shovel hit a roller belt while cleaning up limestone materials.
Following the contact between the shovel and the machine, the heavy-duty equipment was said to have sucked in both the shovel and Adeleke into the crusher, causing severe injuries.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday.
Odutola stated that the victim was immediately pulled out of the machine and rushed to a nearby hospital, where the doctor on duty confirmed pronounced him dead.
She said, “The incident was reported at the Ibese police post by a security guard, Mohammed Muktar. The deceased, a casual worker at Maigida Company under Dangote Cement Factory, was identified as Dare Adeleke.
“The deceased and his colleagues were using shovels to clean limestone beneath a rolling conveyor belt at the factory when Adeleke’s shovel accidentally came into contact with the roller, leading to the fatal accident.
“He was pronounced dead by the doctor at Jajo Clinic, the factory’s onsite hospital, where he was rushed immediately after the incident
“His body has been transferred to the mortuary at the Ilaro State Hospital for an autopsy. Efforts are underway to locate his family.”
