  • Salihu Lukman called on former leaders like Obasanjo and Buhari to unite and create a new political party for Nigeria’s future
  • He emphasized the need for “godly leaders” and a functional political platform to prioritize good governance ahead of the 2027 elections

Salihu Mohammed Lukman, former National Vice Chairman (North West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on former Nigerian leaders, including Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, Yakubu Gowon, and Muhammadu Buhari, to unite and float a new political party to “rescue” Nigeria in the 2027 elections.

Lukman’s appeal was contained in an open letter to Obasanjo, obtained by journalists.

His call follows Obasanjo’s recent comments, published on December 8, 2024, in which the former president stated, “A leader made by Satan is bound to fail, while God’s chosen one will thrive.”

Reacting to Obasanjo’s statement, Lukman stressed the need for Nigeria to produce “godly leaders”. He urged the former heads of state and presidents to take a moral stand in uniting opposition political forces for national development.

“Everything must be done to put Nigeria on the roadmap of producing godly leaders. Leaders such as Your Excellency, together with Gen. Gowon, Gen. Babangida, Gen. Abdulsalami, former President Jonathan, and former President Buhari have the huge moral obligation of engaging all opposition political leaders in the country to unite,” Lukman said.

He emphasized that the nation’s current state requires a functional political platform that prioritizes good governance and the welfare of Nigerians.

Lukman’s call comes amidst growing political debates over leadership and governance in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

He expressed concerns about the direction of the ruling APC and urged former leaders to work to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative actively.
